Whichever sector you work in, your employees should be at the centre of your organisation. Keeping them satisfied can make or break your business.

This task is not always easy. Sometimes, employees themselves do not even know what will improve their satisfaction. That’s why management have to approach the problem in the right way.

Why Is Employee Satisfaction Important?

Aside from the good in itself of having happy employees, there are numerous reasons better employee satisfaction is good for business.

One of the most significant is the relationship between satisfaction and output. When employees are happier, they produce more work of a higher quality!

According to a 2019 study by LSE, there is strong positive correlation between employee satisfaction and output. This study builds on the experimental data from Oswald et al. to analyse meta-data on 1,882,131 employees.

This includes customer loyalty, employee productivity, profitability, and staff turnover. As any manager can tell you, all of these are essential to running a successful business!

Employee satisfaction means you can maintain higher standards across the organisation. When they are more satisfied, employees will be inspired to ensure compliance and not cut corners. This is absolutely essential for upholding the law.

It’s also crucial to think about the company culture you want to create. When you envisioned the values of your company, you likely thought about making a difference in the world. Satisfied employees can work together to create their best work and produce a more dynamic atmosphere.

How To Improve Employee Satisfaction

  •       Simplify Their Work

No one wants their work to be more difficult than it needs to be. If your employees are wasting their time on tedious, unnecessary tasks, they are unlikely to feel positive about the organisation.

Take a look at your internal processes and evaluate how they can be improved. This may be as simple as cutting down pre-meeting paperwork by using an Agenda Builder. It also involves creating more consistency, so they don’t have to redo the same tasks again and again.

  •       Create Team Spirit

Teamwork is one of the most important parts of any organisation, as people around the world come together to share ideas. In formal and informal meetings, having that spark of energy will go far in making your employees feel more comfortable.

External stimulation and spontaneous discourse between colleagues often provide that 'lightbulb' moment which may be lost with remote working. If you are currently working as a remote organisation, perhaps consider going hybrid

  •       Gaining Regular Feedback

No matter how great your organisation is, you can always make improvements. Listening to the people who work for you can help improve the way you operate while enhancing your relationship between you and your employees.

Gain regular employee feedback in casual discussion as well as more formal employee surveys. This is a good way of measuring employee satisfaction so you can work out how to improve. Your team may have issues with specific aspects of the business, such as their work schedules, which can be easily rectified.

  •       Providing Regular Feedback

The other side to this coin is making sure your employees have all the support they need to succeed. Providing regular feedback is a way of making sure they do their best work and have no cause for complaint.

Remember to make sure the feedback you give is constructive and will give your employees a sense of purpose! In the long term, this will boost employee motivation as they understand how to impact their own career development!

  •       Communication

All of these are underlined by a commitment to fluent communication. When information travels around your communication with ease, job satisfaction will rise without you even having to think about it!

Make sure you communicate the expectations and values of your organisation at the outset, and keep reminding your employees throughout their time with you. In turn, ask them to communicate their expectations of the company.

Remember, you need your employees as much as they need you!
